"From the Cradle to the Rave" is how Marcus Lambkin (a.k.a Shit Robot) titled his debut album, an album that took 21 years to forge and that merges all the influences and genres that have made him what he's today.
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Marcus grew up surrounded by techno music and hitting clubs in which DJs were the center of attention and were treated like gods. When winning a Green Card Lottery in 1992 he went to live to NY and discovered a new underground scene in places like The Limelight, Sound Factory, Save the Robots and bars in the East Village where DJs would spin records every night of the week in a more casual mood.
While living in the city, he shared office space with James Murphy in what now is the DFA Headquarters. They built a relationship around Nintendo Golf and Mario Kart and took it farther when they discovered they came from different musical backgrounds and started sharing records. Marcus refers to James nowadays as the reason he's making music and the guy that taught him everything he knows.
After taking a break from recording to take care of his baby girl, he has finally delivered an amazing record that I dare say will be remembered as one of the top productions released by DFA.
